Our mission is to improve the quality of democracy and elections at all tiers in Africa.

The organisation was formed in January 2010 following the need to deepen electoral research work in Africa that would inform effective citizen participation as well as strengthen policy engagement towards improvement of the quality of electoral and democratic practices.

ERC Founded

The Election Resource Centre is established in Harare to deepen electoral research and civic participation across Africa.

2013
First Major Election Observation

ERC deploys trained observers across Zimbabwe's general elections, establishing its credibility as an independent electoral watchdog.

2015
A Coalition Petitions Parliament

Backed by 14 civil society organisations, ERC formally submits a petition to Parliament requesting a comprehensive review of the electoral framework.

Court Victory
Chief Charumbira's Remarks Ruled Unconstitutional

ERC wins a landmark case against the President of the National Council of Chiefs, Chief Fortune Charumbira, over partisan political comments made ahead of the 2018 Harmonised Elections — comments the courts declared unconstitutional.

ZEC Compelled to Release the Voters' Roll

A second landmark ruling in ERC's favour compels the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to release the provisional voters' roll ahead of the 2018 Harmonised Elections.

ERC extends its programmes into Zambia, Botswana and Mozambique, growing its SADC footprint to six nations.

250,000 Voters Registered

ERC's civic education campaigns assist a quarter million citizens to register to vote — a landmark in the organisation's civic mobilisation work.

Constitutional Reform Advocacy

ERC leads public advocacy on Zimbabwe's Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, calling for constituency-led recall systems and democratic safeguards.
